Preparing for Storms Part I
6/21/2021 (Permalink)
SERVPRO of Rochester recommends that you take some time to prepare your home and family for the upcoming summer storm season.
Here in Minnesota, we are in the peak months of tornado season. The Minnesota Department of Natural Resources website states that June through August is the time that Minnesota can expect tornadoes. The earliest tornado Minnesota has experienced was on March 6, 2017 and the latest in the year was on November 16, 1931.
No-one wants to go through the experience of a tornado, but it's better to be prepared than be caught off guard.
Keep an eye to the sky. This is a popular expression, but one that is true. Watch the sky. If the weather is nice and hot then suddenly turns black in the sky. Get home. Sirens will go off if there is a tornado warning.
Some things for you to think about and talk to your family about:
- What is the plan if there is a tornado?
- Where will everyone meet?
- Do you have a weather radio that is battery opeated?
- Do you have something sturdy to pull over your body in case the area above you is torn off? Many recommend using a mattress to pull over you for protection from flying debris.
- Do you have a flashlight with working batteries?
We want to help you in your time of crisis. SERVPRO of Rochester is here to help you.
